Built in 1902 and having a compelling colour scheme, the multi-unit dwelling is located on Goltzstrasse, a street running from the Winterfeldtplatz market square with its church, St. Matthias, to the vibrant neighbourhood along its southern extension, Akazienstrasse. As soon as you enter the complex, you will be impressed by the plaster-ornamented entrance area and the wooden hand-rail in the stairwell, so typical for its day and age. Having been extensively refurbished in 2012, the well-appointed residential building is in good repair. In conjunction with the refurbishment works, the conspicuous blue balconies were reinstated, while the façade was fitted with thermal insulation and new flooring installed. In addition, lifts were installed in both front and back building. Three bright and generously proportioned apartments in the attic with roof terraces facing the courtyard—which were developed in November 2018—are awaiting their first residents. All of the flats were fitted with board flooring in a warm oak hue that creates a natural ambience. Bathrooms and kitchens, which get natural lights, have tiled walls and floors in a bright grey hue. The flat in the back building extends over 168 square metres and divides into an eat-in kitchen, two bedrooms, a tub-equipped bathroom plus a dressing room and a separately accessed store room that could alternatively be used as studio or craft room. The attic of the front building contains two flats. One of them, extending over 109 squares, is suitable for families and features an eat-in kitchen, two bedrooms as well as a tub-equipped bathroom and a guest WC. The other flat of roughly 72 square metres has an eat-in kitchen, one bedroom and a tub-equipped bathroom, and would be ideal for one person or a couple. All windows have electrically operated external heat protection blinds and electrically operated roof windows.
The neighbourhood around Winterfeldplatz between Potsdamer Strasse and Viktoria-Luise-Platz lies in the heart of the borough of Schöneberg and is one of the nicest quarters anywhere in Berlin. Towering above the square is St. Matthias-Kirche, one of the few free-standing Catholic churches in Berlin. The farmer’s market that Winterfeldtplatz hosts every Wednesday and Saturday is probably the best known, most diversified, oldest and largest of its kind in Berlin, and it is frequented by locals of all generations, the borough’s middle-class and recent arrivals to the city. The square is fringed by a rich variety of antique book stores while the side streets are lined with pubs of long-standing tradition and culinary options of every sort, from cafés to small grocery stores. Highly popular landmarks in the neighbourhood include the 24-hour café Berio, the Slumberland dance club with its sand-covered floor which dates back to the days of the Berlin Wall, and the Habibi restaurant with its high-quality Lebanese cuisine. Cultural and culinary delights are right outside your door. On nearby Motzstrasse and neighbouring streets, the largest gay-lesbian street party in Europe is celebrated once a year and represents one of the area’s cultural highlights. Within walking distance lies Heinrich-von-Kleist Park, formerly the Royal Botanical Garden along with the Royal Botanical Museum. Aside from the chance to take a break and to discover horticultural treasures, it is also one of the venues of the Berlin Music Festival, hosting the Jazz at the Colonnades event. No less than four different underground lines intersect at Nollendorfplatz. With such convenient public transport links on hand, you are within easy reach of the KaDeWe department store and the Kurfürstendamm boulevard in West Berlin, Alexanderplatz in East Berlin or to any of the forest lakes on the Western edge of town. This place is throbbing with diversity!
