Located north of Leipzig's city center, Gohlis is today one of the most popular and beautiful parts of the city. Characterized by streets from the Wilhelminian period as well as villas in the Art Nouveau style, the neighborhood has an unmistakable middle-class character. Friedrich Schiller wrote the "Ode to Joy" here during his four-month stay in 1785, leaving behind the Schiller House as today's City History Museum. Another place of interest is the Gohlis Palace (Gohliser Schlösschen): a unique and excellently preserved building and highlight of rococo architecture in Saxony. Along with the lovingly tended palace garden, the last surviving baroque garden of Leipzig's garden culture, visitors are offered an idyll and oasis of tranquility. With 650 different species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish, the Leipzig Zoo with its Gondwanaland (a tropical adventure exhibit) is one of the main attractions in Gohlis-Süd. Those who like it more sporty can pursue their activities in the Auenwald or in the Rosental, in the Stadium of Peace or along the course of the Rietzschke or the Parthe rivers. This is also possible in the immediate vicinity of Benedixstraße. Just a seven-minute walk away is the picturesque and popular walking area with a small pond and children's playground equipment, the Arthur Bretschneider Park. Stores for daily needs such as cafés and supermarkets can be found in the immediate vicinity, as well as daycare centers, schools or medical facilities. West of Benedixstrasse, in Georg-Schumann-Strasse, the hub of the district, you will find numerous shopping opportunities. Culinary variety awaits you beyond the main streets, in the smaller and winding alleys to the side of Coppistraße, Landsberger Straße and Lindenthaler Straße. Perfect connections to the center of Leipzig as well as to Halle (Saale) are provided by the S-Bahn station Leipzig-Gohlis, only 350 meters away, as well as the nearby streetcar. The symbiosis of culture, nature and central transport links gives the district the character of a high-quality, livable and, above all, exclusive residential location. As the saying goes, "If you feel too comfortable, move to Gohlis."
